FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Quest partners with Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Sacramento & Northeastern
California for Walk for Wishes
Sacramento, CA – March 25, 2010—Quest is proud to partner with
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Sacramento & Northeastern California as we ‘Walk for
Wishes’ in our pajamas! Participants, including a team of Quest employees and
their families, will enjoy a 5k Walk throughout downtown Sacramento or a 1-mile
shortcut around the Capitol grounds along with great food, entertainment and fun
– all with a Pancakes and Pajamas theme! There is no fee to participate in the
walk, but pledges and donations are encouraged.
Walkers will join 8-year old Walk Ambassador Sadie, who was diagnosed in 2007
with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a cancer of the adrenal system. In November 2009, a
routine bone scan showed a "hot spot" had developed on Sadie's skull. A biopsy
in December confirmed that the spot was new Neuroblastoma forming in the bone
marrow of her skull. In January 2010, Sadie had a port-a-cath installed and
began chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Sadie will be on chemotherapy for
approximately eight months, in hope that this treatment will knock the cancer
back into remission.
When asked what her wish would be, Sadie said that she most wanted to visit
Walt Disney World in Florida. Sadie and her family were treated to five fun
filled days exploring the parks including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center,
Disney/MGM studios. Cute as a button, Sadie reflects on her experience and says
“It was the best wish ever!”
Quest President and CEO, Tim Burke, elaborates, “Make-A-Wish Foundation is a
symbol of hope for children with life threatening diseases. The impact that a
wish can make on a child affected by a serious illness can provide a much needed
rallying point to put aside the stress of prolonged medical treatment for a
short time and just bond as a family.”
Through corporate sponsorship and team-member fundraising for the ‘Walk for
Wishes’ events, Quest has raised approximately $60,000 for Make-A-Wish
Foundation. At an average cost of $5,000 per wish that translates to 12 wishes
for these special children in our area!
For over a decade, Quest’s long-term commitment to Make-A-Wish spans events
throughout the year including the ‘Winter Wine and Food Fest’ held at the start
of the New Year, ‘Walk for Wishes’ in May, and the Radiothon during the summer.
